Our Experience will start with a visit to the “Sweet” town of Modica, rebuilt in Sicilian Baroque style, after the earthquake of 1693, one of the most picturesque towns in the province of Ragusa and to tell the truth about Sicily in general, some years UNESCO included Modica in the list of locations protected as a World Heritage Site.
The city is divided into two parts, “upper” Modica and “lower”, Modica connected by numerous stairs. The oldest nucleus of Modica revolves around the ruins of the ancient castle, where a tangle of small roads leads to the highest point of the city.
By getting closer to the oldest part of the city, you can notice the houses that are attached to each other and often come up partly by exploiting the natural cavities of the rock. These caves were inhabited since prehistoric times, and today many have been literally embedded in the latest buildings.
We will complete our visit to the city with the tasting of the different varieties of chocolate produced following the ancient Azteca recipe.
We will continue our experience with the visit of the city of Ragusa, capital of the province, crossed by the Irmino River. The city is divided between the new and the old part, called Ibla, built on the ruins of ancient cities and also rebuilt, like Modica, after the earthquake of 1693. Ragusa and Ibla offer a beautiful historical center with a wonderful panoramic view.
Walking along the narrow streets we will discover the Piazza del Duomo or the St. George’s portal next to
the beautiful Iblei gardens. we will continue exploring Ragusa up to Ibla, the oldest and most fascinating part, thanks to the many palaces and churches rich in baroque architecture
Every corner of this small historic village gives us a surprise, a walk along these places is really a unique experience.ProgramPick-Up at Accommodation Visiting Modica
